Dropshipping is a popular e-commerce fulfillment method where a store doesn't keep the products it sells in stock. In the dropshipping model, when a store makes a sale, it buys the product from a third-party supplier and arranges for it to be shipped directly to the customer.This way, the store doesn't have to handle the product directly, making it a convenient and cost-effective option for many
businesses.
In Odoo, setting up a dropshipping scenario involves configuring your product listings, suppliers, and orders to seamlessly manage the process. Let's walk through a real-life scenario to illustrate how dropshipping works in Odoo:
Imagine you run an online store that sells electronics. You have a supplier who provides you with laptops, smartphones, and tablets. You want to use the dropshipping model to fulfill orders for these products without holding inventory.
1. Enable Dropshipping Feature:
To enable the Dropshipping feature, go to the Purchase settings and navigate to the Logistics tab. Locate the option to activate the Drop Shipping feature.
2. Configure Products:
In Odoo, you'll first create product listings for the laptops, smartphones, and tablets provided by your supplier. Each product will be linked to the corresponding supplier.
When configuring a product in Odoo, you can enable dropshipping for that product by checking the "Dropship" checkbox under inventory tab. This indicates to Odoo that this particular product will be dropshipped and should not be stocked in your inventory.
3.Process Orders:
For dropshipping, once you have configured a product as a dropship item in Odoo, you can create a new Sales Order directly from the Sales module for this product. This means that when a customer places an order for the dropshipped product on your website or through sales, you can easily process that order in Odoo by creating a Sales Order.
Odoo will then automatically generate a purchase order to your supplier for the product, initiating the dropshipping process.
